|RF '19 Canoe-A-Thon
| Canoe-A-Thon is a timed run down the Lackawanna River from two mid-valley
launch sites to the finish line at Sweeney’s Beach Recreation Area in Scranton.
Paddlers have the option of competing for the fastest time as part of a
competitive athletic event or spending a leisurely time with a recreational
paddle. Consider taking the paddle from
the David Maslar Park (Laurel Street Park) in Archbald for a 12-mile run or
the Blakely Borough Recreational Park for an 8-mile run. Course Map
The run from Archbald offers some Class II rapids within the first 4 miles of
the course to the Blakely launch site, while the run from Blakely offers Class I rapids and riffles. Paddlers can experience all the nuances the
Lackawanna River has to offer. Please review the Rules and Safety Plan for
Medals will be awarded at the finish line for first, second, and third
place finishers in 7 categories for each of the launch sites. Participants may use their own canoes and kayaks
or can reserve a rental kayak (rentals must register by noon on Wednesday, May 8) provided by special
arrangement with the LRCA.
All participants must register prior to May 11, 2019. Rental kayaks will be
offered only from the Blakely launch
site; if you want to launch from Archbald, you will need your own canoe or
kayak. Competing paddlers are to complete the course by 1:00 pm and all paddlers
are to be off the River by 2:00 pm.
The LRCA must receive a completed registration form
before or on May 10, 2019 by noon. Waivers will be available to sign on May 11, 2019 at final registration.
