RF '19 Canoe-A-Thon
Canoe-A-Thon is a timed run down the Lackawanna River from two mid-valley launch sites to the finish line at Sweeney’s Beach Recreation Area in Scranton. Paddlers have the option of competing for the fastest time as part of a competitive athletic event or spending a leisurely time with a recreational paddle. Consider taking the paddle from the David Maslar Park (Laurel Street Park) in Archbald for a 12-mile run or the Blakely Borough Recreational Park for an 8-mile run. Course Map

The run from Archbald offers some Class II rapids within the first 4 miles of the course to the Blakely launch site, while the run from Blakely offers Class I rapids and riffles. Paddlers can experience all the nuances the Lackawanna River has to offer. Please review the Rules and Safety Plan for this event.

Medals will be awarded at the finish line for first, second, and third place finishers in 7 categories for each of the launch sites. Participants may use their own canoes and kayaks or can reserve a rental kayak (rentals must register by noon on Wednesday, May 8) provided by special arrangement with the LRCA.

All participants must register prior to May 11, 2019. Rental kayaks will be offered only from the Blakely launch site; if you want to launch from Archbald, you will need your own canoe or kayak. Competing paddlers are to complete the course by 1:00 pm and all paddlers are to be off the River by 2:00 pm.

The LRCA must receive a completed registration form before or on May 10, 2019 by noon. Waivers will be available to sign on May 11, 2019 at final registration.

Please contact the LRCA at (570) 347-6311 if you have any questions or concerns.
