FREE EVENT!
On Saturday 14 January 2023, only the toughest of the toughest will paddle the river and revelers will again fill the banks of the Lackawanna River. A day of exercise and fun, ShiverFest draws the community outdoors during the cold winter to celebrate the valley and the river that runs through it. The LRCA wants to keep the river running all year long and the best way to do it is by braving the cold and conquering the ice water!
This "Extreme Kayak & Canoe Paddle" is noncompetitive this year. Paddlers will travel approximately 2.7 miles of the Lackawanna River in Scranton from Parker Street Landing to Sweeney's Beach. Paddlers who are willing to brave the winter on the River should have their own vessel and wet-suit (strongly recommended). Launch is High Noon.
The COVID-19 Pandemic has been with us and is still a health risk. We are following CDC guidelines for this event (i.e., masks, social distancing, etc.). The LRCA wants this winter paddle to be as safe as possible for all paddlers and attendees. The following are some precautionary measures we would like everyone to observe:
The LRCA will host a Thaw Party from 2 - 5 PM at the Lace Works Tap & Grill, 524 Court Street for $15 per person with a cash bar. There will be a 50/50 Raffle and wintry fun. Join us for a friendly gathering of the brave paddlers and the family & friends who are on hand to celebrate “the toughest of the toughest”.
